Here Are Our Picks For Celebrity Hairstyles Change-Up Artist
Celebrities are masters of reinvention, especially when it comes to hairstyles. However, some celebrities change their looks so often that variation itself becomes their trademark. Here are some of our favourite celebrity hairstyles chameleons and our pick of the best of their (many!) styles.
Musician and ex-Mrs Russell Brand Katy Perry is one of the most famous hair chameleons in the business, frequently switching her naturally blonde locks in favour of bright and bold colours. The Teenage Dreams singer donned a pastel purple wig in the video for ‘California Girls’; plum-coloured curls at the premiere of her movie Katy Perry: Part of Me; and a crimped blue bob at the 2012 Grammy Awards. However she wears it, her hair always looks fabulous – if only we could look that good with neon tresses.
Trinidadian-born singer and rapper Nicki Minaj is famed for more than just her music. Since bursting onto the scene in 2010, Minaj has gone from natural black to white blonde, to rainbow dip-dye, to half platinum blonde, half pastel pink and – more recently – messy candy blue/pink locks in her video for ‘The Boys’.
Paramore front-woman Hayley Williams is adored for her flame orange hair, a look that she has maintained for most of her career. When Paramore first started making a name for themselves, Hayley experimented with white-blonde pieces – a look quickly imitated by girls everywhere. Around the launch of their single ‘Decode’ for the movie Twilight, Hayley debuted a multi-tonal red with long layers. By the release of the band’s self-titled fourth album she had changed again; this time incorporating a short, punky fringe into her candy pink and tangerine orange curls.
Early on in her career, Rihanna’s flowing chocolate-coloured locks gave her a cute girl-next-door look that gave no hints as to her more adventurous instincts. As her music career took off, RiRi started to experiment with her look. From shaved sides to voluminous blonde curls, Rihanna’s most influential look so far is surely her traffic light red locks. More recently she has adopting a more grown up, black pixie crop – though we’re sure it won’t be long until the next change!
Lady Gaga is famed for her outrageous style, and her hair is one of her most important fashion accessories. At the start of her mainstream career, Gaga’s platinum blonde tresses and eyelash skimming fringe gave her an edgy look imitated by girls across the world. Around the release of ‘Telephone’, Gaga went from white blonde to custard yellow. Since then she has donned wigs of all lengths and colours, including the turquoise bob that she wore in her duet with Tony Bennett. However, promo photos for upcoming album ArtPop suggest that Gaga is stepping away from the hair dye for a while in favour of her natural mousey brown colour in long waves.
With her growing success, Scarlett Johansson made the transformation from natural beauty to blonde bombshell. However, when she was given the role of Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ character, she transformed into a fiery redhead; an apt style for her equally firey alter-ego Natasha Romanoff.
American singer-songwriter Ashlee Simpson stepped into the limelight following cameo appearances in her sister Jessica’s reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. Our first glimpses of the little Simpson portrayed her as a teenage rebel with shaggy black hair, a world away from her sister’s glamorous blonde barnet. Throughout her relationship with rocker Pete Wentz, she sported vibrant red locks. However, following their 2011 split, she arrived bleach blonde at the 2013 American Ballet Theatre Opening Night Spring Gala.
The changing hairstyles of Miley Cyrus mark her transition from child star to adult. Her long brunette locks were her trademark as character Miley Stewart in kids’ show Hannah Montana, which she later exchanged for a trendy dip-dye bob. However, Miley’s latest style, debuted just before her wedding, is a far cry from the early days: a bleach-blonde quiff and shaven sides.
